The Primary Dynamics Governing the Rise and Maintenance of Authoritarian Regimes

Abstract

Authoritarian and totalitarian states have their roots in the economic changes that brought about the rise of the market economy, including the severing of humans from traditional bonds of security, and subsequently, humans have sought a replacement for that missing sense of Existential Security. In the 20th and 21st centuries, authoritarianism and totalitarianism have become prevalent methods for addressing humans' sense of Existential Insecurity.
